Hannover is the capital city of Lower Saxony. You can get to Hannover by plane, train, coach or car.

Please let us know as soon as possible when exactly you will arrive in Hannover, so that we can arrange your accommodation and organize someone of our IAESTE staff to pick you up. This person will take you to your accommodation and answer your questions.

Please remember to bring a valid passport and a valid visa (for non-EU-citizens)!!!

Arrival

Arrival by airplane

The Hannover Airport is located about 10km in the noth of the Hannover City and a train is connecting the airport with Hannover main station.

Arrival by train

Because of Hannover´s connection to the high-speed rail network, it is in some cases possible to travel to Hannover by train. You can look for suitable connections at the pages of the European Railways or the Deutsche Bahn.

Arrival by car

Dresden is connected to the German highway network. Europe-wide route suggestions are available here. We do not recommend travelling by car as there are relatively few parking lots in Hannover. Besides a car is not necessary in everyday life in Hannover because everything can be reached by tram.

Accommodation

If you inform us in time about your arrival, we will arrange accommodation for you. We search for low-cost, furnished rooms and rent them for the period of your internship. The rooms are equipped at least with a bed, a cupboard/shelf, a table and a chair. In addition there will be an access to a kitchen and to a shower/WC. In most rooms there will be an Internet connection, but we cannot always guarantee for that.

Your rent will be around 300 € per month. The rent will be taken directly from your internship salary, so that you do not need to worry about the lodging issues. In addition, we will collect a deposit from you at your arrival. You will get it back at the end of your stay, if you leave your room without having damaged anything.

Bed linen and towels must be brought along!

The first days in Hannover

During the first days a mentor will help you with all your questions and show you the city center of Hannover. You will find out where you can buy all the everyday stuff and what you can do in Hannover in the evenings. Additionally we assist you in getting a German SIM card (prepaid) for your mobile phone so that you can call us and the other trainees at low costs. Your mentor will also bring you to your working place on your first working day. Soon you will also get to know the other members of the Local Committee and the other trainees.
